Dance is the hidden language of the soul. The body says what words cannot.

Paul Taylor - Dancemaker

I borrowed this fantastic dvd from Esplanade Library. It's about this dance chereographer and dancer, Paul Taylor.
Talking about his life, his works, his feelings, his inspirations and answered the whys of many people.
Paul Taylor can be considered one of the pioneers of Modern dance. He was with Martha Graham before he set up his own company, Paul Taylor Dance Company.
This dvd about him is quite comprehensive and intense. It glues me to the screen for the whole 90mins. This show was one of the nominee for Grammy awards. So cool...

Some of the ideas of his work are really quite interesting. Im just going to mention some.

There's one about him trying to show people about a dysfunctional family which he was in.
The dancers were all reaching out for one another but in the whole dance, they never touch each other at all.

Then there's another one called "Man is a social animal". At first, it shows him talking to important people and then there's a flashback to his dance. A group of men was wearing tuxedos on the stage. They were all moving strangely, like animals, with a certain routine, as if they are communicating with each other. And the fun part is it keeps flashing between Paul Taylor talking to some guys and the dance piece.
I find it really interesting.

The last one is a really cool one. It shows a girl, who lusts for man, she's sort of slutty but not really bad in character.
A group of men crowded around her, but when she approaches each one of them, all turn away from her. The whole dance was really quite intense and exciting.

I was really stuck on my chereography a few days before I watched this dvd. After i watched it, wow, it gives me incredible inspirations...

But im stuck again now... oh well... never mind... you will never know what you might come out with tomorrow... hope tomorrow will be a good day...
